Teaching & Learning with Monarch Butterflies

Thu Jul 5 to Fri Jul 6, 2018, Cambridge, ON

Discover the incredible story of the Monarch butterfly! And find out what you can do to help protect this iconic and imperiled species.

Our hands-on workshop explores the Monarch’s life cycle, migration and habitat requirements, and provides all the necessary skills and equipment to bring Monarchs into any educational environment. At the end of the course, participants are eligible to apply for the scientific collectors permit required to collect monarch caterpillars from the wild.

Topics include:

- the significance of milkweed for Monarch habitats
- appropriate care and handling protocols throughout all life
- history of tagging and tracking of migrating Monarchs
- ethical considerations related to species conservation

A second day will focus on curriculum-linked activities using the monarch butterfly as a focus. Participants may choose to attend one or both days.
