Off-grid house tour

Sun Apr 23, 2017, Orangeville, ON

CELEBRATE WITH US! #2713 Concession Road #3, Adjala Township.

Our off-grid house is having its 20th annual 'tour of the house' on Sunday, April 23rd from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Please tell your friends, and email us if you plan to come <anthonyketchum37 (at) gmail.com>.

The house has won several awards and has been the subject of a number of magazine and newspaper articles, websites.

It is wind and solar/PV powered, earth sheltered with indoor garden, composting toilets. The earth sheltering keeps the house at approximately 10C with no other heat source in winter. Heat mirror glass is R8.

A 7 tonne, wood-fired masonry heater uses approximately two bush cords per winter. The owners only stay part-time in winter.
A back-up generator can be used if there is no wind and little sun in December. In 2017, the generator was rarely used (approx. 20 litres) A propane cook stove's fuel costs approximately $75:00 per year; the wood-fired kitchen cook stove is used mostly. Wood as a fuel is carbon neutral.

The house can be reached from Ont. Hwy #9 at Adjala Conc. #3.
Go north 8 and 1/2 kms. from Hwy. 9 to #2713.
Alternately, go south on Conc.#3 for 1/2 km. from Hockley Valley Rd./ Simcoe County Rd. #1.
Please park safely on the Concession road.
